Using CME Progenitors to Assess CME Geoeffectiveness

Abstract There have been a few previous studies claiming that the effects of geomagnetic storms strongly depend on orientation magnetic cloud portion coronal mass ejections (CMEs). Aparna & Martens, using halo-CME data from 2007 to 2017, showed field filaments at location where CMEs originate Sun can be used credibly predict geoeffectiveness being studied. The purpose this study is extend their survey by analyzing for 1996–2006. correlation filament axial direction solar surface and corresponding Bz signatures L1 are form more extensive analysis results previously presented Martens. This utilizes Solar Heliospheric Observatory Extreme-ultraviolet Imaging Telescope 195 Å, Michelson Doppler Imager magnetogram images, Kanzelhöhe Big Bear H α images each particular time period, along with ACE interplanetary signatures.
